Kadamb Flower

Neolamarckia cadamba

Description:

No mistaking this flower. It is as round as a ball...or the sweet laddu that we have here in India. Mildly scented. Birds find it edible.Tree is medium=sized. Leaves are simple, largish.

Habitat:

Residential colony...shade tree. There are quite a few here.

Notes:

The Kadam tree I planted lived for about 30 odd years, when it dies a couple of years back it served as a nesting site for the Blue-throated barbet. It totally collapsed last week and was carted away. I am sad about that especially when i see the empty space but am happy quite a few others of its species have survived in our area. All are flowering now. This tree is celebrated in literature. An earlier spotting: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/99...
