Anthia sexguttata
This beautiful beetle was running out of the photo frame as fast as it could, so I only got this 1 photo, almost! It was almost 2 inches long and strikingly easy to see against the red earth. Anthia sexguttata, or the six-spot ground beetle, is a beetle of the Family Carabidae. These amazing looking beetles are commonly known as DOMINO BEETLES due to their pattern of white spots on a black body. Domino beetles are a large species of tiger beetle from India.
The species occurs in the drier parts of South Asia. It is common in the scrub forests of southern India.
Tiger beetles can be very fast-running and in fact it is said that they are one of the fastest animals in the world for their size. Some scientists have estimated that if tiger beetles were proportionately the same size as people they would be able to run at 300 miles per hour!
hahaha Anne, so true! Yes it was really large and stood out so easily against the red earth. Sensed me really fast as I moved in for the photo, even though it was facing the other way!
Tiger beetles are ALWAYS running out of the photo frame in my experience :)
That's a handsome beetle, and big!
my goodness bayucca, you are quick off the mark! Barely had time to upload it before it's identified!!
Carabidae, Harpalinae, Anthia sexguttata.
