Recurvirostra americana
This is a Gorgeous monotypic bird of the stilt and avocet family Recurvirostridae. The males bill is longer and straighter while the female's is more curved up at the end. The orange rusty head is striking against its black and white bared siding.
The Avocet hangs out in marshy shallow mud flats seeking what i don't know but for sure they are bizzy doing it; while the Mating season brings them mainly to the central and northern part of the continent.
These pix were taken at the Bowdoin (pronounced: Ba'doy'n) Nat'l Wildlife Reserve (NWR). on a 15 mile Auto Tour of these prime lake and marshy areas in upper central Montana, just out side of Malta.
