Eastern towhee

Pipilo erythrophthalmus

Description:

Formerly the eastern towhee and the spotted towhee were considered a single species, the rufous-sided towhee. The eastern towhee is now a large new world sparrow. I always know when a towhee is nearby because I hear their "towhee" call. Sounds like their name.

Habitat:

Their breeding habitat is brushy areas across eastern North America. I spotted this towhee in a forest at Crooked river State Park, St Marys, Georgia. My last spotting of this bird was in Maryland
