Description:

This is a medium-sized solitary wasp that is mostly black with white markings on the thorax and abdomen. About 1.5 cm in length. They are named for their mud-built nests that resemble pots.

Habitat:

I photographed this insect at the edge of my suburban yard next to a deciduous forest.
