Eastern Spadefoot

Scaphiopus holbrookii

Description:

Approximately 2 inch long frog with a vertical, cat-like pupil and and a hardened crescent-shaped spade on each hind foot. It was a purplish color with some patches of yellow and small orange and yellow raised spots.

Habitat:

Found during a rain storm on a paved road near a shallow farm pond.
