American Coot

Description:

The American coot, AKA the mud hen, is a bird that is commonly mistaken to be a duck, but they aren't. They are black birds with a pale peak, that sometimes even appears yellow. The adults have part of there beak go all the way up to there forehead.

Habitat:

Lakes, shores, or any small body of water.

Notes:

I found these guys resting on the water, as a group, and took one picture before they flew over to see there friends, on the other side of the lake.
