Callipepla gambelii
A Gambel's quail is ground feeder, that has a small feather on the top of its head, a black throat, a mainly brown body, a rust colored crown, and red spots on the side of its round body.
I saw this bird hiding under trees, just outside of a golf course, in anthem. Itself and another female were scurried across the hot rocks, just intime for me to get a couple pictures... although I couldn't get one of the female.
