Thanks for the ID all! I originally thought it was a Blue Dasher as well until I noticed the female looked quite different and this one was missing the striped thorax.

The Dasher has a striped thorax and Pondhawks do not. Because seen in CA I think it is a Western Pondhawk.

Blue Dasher females aren't green. I'm fairly certain this is a male Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly. Check the following references to see whether the "green dragonfly" you spotted looks like a female Eastern Pondhawk. http://bugguide.net/node/view/577 http://njodes.com/Speciesaccts/skimmers/...
