Northern Redbelly Cooter

Pseudemys rubriventris

Description:

A Northern Redbelly Cooter (Pseudemys rubriventris) surfaces for air before submerges back into the water at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Virginia Beach, Va. on Sept. 27, 2009. The second redbelly cooter I spotted surfaces to intake air before submerges back into Lake James in Virginia Beach, Va. on Sept. 4, 2007. This breed of turtles are usually found in water and thus they have algae growing on them.

Hi, Kitt. This spotting appears to be in the "Amphibians of the World" by mistake. When you get a moment, please remove it and look at the "Reptiles of the World" mission instead.
