Toxomerus marginatus
A very tiny syrphid fly, less than 1/4", yet extremely beneficial. Larvae are voracious predators of aphids, thrips, small caterpillars and other soft bodied insects. Adults feed on nectar & pollen and are considered to be light pollinators.
Southern Canada - Most of the U.S - Central America. Areas with flowers, herbaceous plants & shrubs.
Observed on Lobelia erinus, which exhibits the tiny size of this syrphid fly.
