Crab Apple

Malus sp

Description:

With features of the domestic apple tree, this tree has small red fruit that look very much like commercial apples.

Habitat:

Native to the US. Here it is grown as an ornamental plant and for culinary purposes.

Notes:

This tree is obviously not wild. I could not resist the beautiful red fruit. This tree was growing on a nature strip. For those who are not familiar with the crab apple - the fruits are very tart. I have not even seen birds eat them here. They are used for jams and jellies.
