Libellula cyanea
One of several male Spangled Skimmer dragonflies spotted in the central wetland area at Huntley Meadows Park. Two anatomical features are visible in the photo: the black and white pterostigma located near each wing tip; and the male terminal appendages located at the end of the abdomen. Contrast the appearance of a male Spangled Skimmer with a female of the same species: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/112...

I just added a diptych composite image (see Photo 2 of 2) that illustrates sexual dimorphism in male- and female Spangled Skimmer dragonflies. Notice the "Nike swoosh" that appears on the sides of the thorax of both males and females of this species. Related Resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_dimo... Tech Tip: The diptych was created using "Diptic" app for Apple iOS devices.
