Braconid Wasp

Atanycolus sp.

Description:

Large red wasp with black wings and ovipositor.

Habitat:

found on raspberry bushes next to a stream.

Notes:

I looked at Braconid wasps but somewhere got the impression they were all small. This one was pretty large.

I'm pretty sure it's an Ichneumonid and not a Braconid. Maybe this one, but unfortunately it isn't ID to species on here.

Thanks Vo Anh Tuan. You would think there might be a lot of these wasps in this area as the whole forest was devastated by beetles a number of years ago and there are still dead trees everywhere.
