Family Heleomyzidae
Body length roughly 6-7 millimeters. Resembles a very slender house fly. Note row of spines along the leading edge of the wing, a diagnostic character for this family of flies.
Found inside our townhouse.
These are known as "sun flies," but they are most abundant in late fall and early spring. Larvae, depending on the species, are associated with decaying organic matter, fungi, bird nests, or mammal nests.
