Strangalia luteicornis
Two insects mating on a magnolia flower. The male is the smaller one on top. The female continued walking around and munching on magnolia. While I was photographing them, another male flew onto the flower and wanted in on the action. He got on top of the first male and tried to pull him off. Then there was a tussle, with the three of them rolling around and looking ridiculous. Finally, the female had had enough and flew away. The interloper tried to mount the other male. Once he realized his mistake, he flew away. Drama, drama, drama!
My yard. Observed on a magnolia flower. A bunch of these insects were buzzing around the magnolia tree or settling on its flowers. Must be breeding time.
