Thatching Ant

Description:

This ant, along with a few thousand of its siblings, were found on a large pile of needles, small twigs, and other natural forest floor detritus. From this and the characteristic red head and black abdomen, I'm fairly certain this is one of the Formica species, possibly F. obscuripes.
