Question Mark Butterfly

Polygonia interrogationis

Description:

at Lake Kegonsa State Park, Stoughton, Wisconsin. Wingspan about 2 inches. I thought this was a Painted Lady, but after looking that one up on the Internet, it didn't seem to be. so then a member of ProjectNoah identified it. Yay - it is called "Question Mark". And that is very fitting, since the identity was a question mark for me for a while. Hahahahaha. So anybody know what it is?

Habitat:

forest

Notes:

Wow! Interesting that this butterfly looks different depending on when it is hatched - there is a "winter form" and a "summer form". I never knew that could happen.
