Description:

This plant is native to eastern North America. It is purported to have medicinal properties. Due to its popularity and unique habitat requirements, the wild plant has been overharvested, as well as lost through destruction of its habitat, and now it is rare in most parts of the United States and Canada. Its medicinal value is still not proven, however.
