Rosa canina
Wild rose or dog-rose is deciduous and thorny shrub, 1 to 5m tall when growing without support. This specimen was rather small, not exceeding half a meter in height. The leaves are composed of 5-7 leaflets. The flowers are usually pale pink, but can vary between a deep pink and white (as on this specimen). They are some 4-5cm in diameter with five petals, and mature into an oval 1.5–2 cm red-orange fruit, or hip.
Observed on alpine pastures of Salève, a pre-Alps mountain dominating Geneva.
