Description:

Large, 25-28 millimeters in body length, colored as shown. This is a convincing mimic of a paper wasp.

Habitat:

The wasp was flitting in and out of a grove of alder trees. Native habitat at the zoo is mixed coniferous forest with aspen, chokecherry, Gambel's oak, and other assorted hardwoods.
