Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Habitat:

Roosting in trees along the Mississippi River. They spend much of the winter near the dams, filling up on fish.

Notes:

The eagles are back at the dams in great numbers, so it is nice to have something consistent to photograph again.

Being able to get into more than 5 missions is a glitch when using Chrome as your internet browser. I'll remove it from "Birds of Illinois" mission for you, Bil

Thanks Maria! I got 6 missions purely by accident. I noticed that I had marked Birds of Illinois, and went back to edit it and put Iowan Biodiversity. When editing, it allowed me to uncheck, but when I updated, it kept Birds of Illinois for some reason. I tried to fix it three or four times, but it continued to do the same thing.

Thanks Logan! I'm lucking to be in this area and see these gorgeous birds often. It's amazing how they have bounced back. I've lived here most of my life and didn't even see one until I was in my late teens. Now they seem to be everywhere!
Thanks DrNamgyaIT,Sherpa. The challenge lies in withstanding the cold temperatures for several hours and finding the best lighting. This area has the sun facing me most of the day, but there are a couple of prime hours where the sun is positioned just right.

You might have put in quite a lot of time and effort for these photos. Nice series anyway, Bill!
