This is a lovely fungus. I believe it may be a ganoderma as well. They do acquire odd coloring as they age.

Keith, the red is just park of the natural coloration of the fungus though I admit it does look a lot like blood.

It appears as if it fell off a tree. I would check Ganoderma sp. first.
