Wasp

Description:

Body length 20mm, long waist. Black and brown in colour. Clear wings. Long legs.

Habitat:

Urban vegetable garden. Resting on a cycad.

Notes:

Might be Prionyx kirby. Caterpillars in garden. Mud nest under the roof gutter, but not sure if this is this particular wasp's nest.

As far as I know it is a type of robber fly that flies lazily with dangling feet to mimic a wasp. we have had several of them I our home and garden here in cape town and I uploaded the exact same one. After seeing this post I tend to agree with Paul Davis......Pegesimallus sp.

This looks like a Robber Fly ----Asilidae ,possibly ---Pegesimallus sp.
