Description:

A large dragonfly distinguished by its large black markings on the hindwings that resemble saddlebags. It patrols ponds, lakes & rivers and seldom lands.

Habitat:

Most of North America. Ponds, lakes, streams.

Notes:

Observed perching on Autumn Joy sedum in the garden. Possibly blew in from a storm earlier in the day.
