Willow tit

Poecile montana

Description:

Difficult one to identify from a distance and a fleeting moment I saw it... both Marsh and Willow tit could fit here, I went with Willow because I have impression there is a lighter-coloured panel along secondaires... Small tit, maybe 10 to 11 cm in length; with brown back and whitish chest and belly, and a buff tinge toward wings. There is a characteristic black cape, black extending to the nape, and distinguished black bib.

Habitat:

Common but discreet resident (lifer for me) of Eurasian mountainous forests, prefers coniferous ones. Here seen on edges of such forest, edges giving to mountain pastures in French so-called Pre-Alps.
