A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ara ararauna
Native to Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Range extends slightly into Central America, restricted to Panama. Range formerly included Trinidad, but became extinct there by 1970 as a result of human activities. A small breeding population descended from introduced birds has inhabited Miami-Dade County, Florida, since the mid-1980s.
Had never seen these in "the wild" and didn't even have to travel to South America. Another of our many non-native residents here in South Florida. A flock of 4 loud and rambunctious individuals visited the botanical park this morning.
