weevil

Alcidodes praeustus

Description:

Another specimen of Alcidodes praeustus. The ID here is based on that given previously by personal communication with an expert I contacted for < http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/802... > (The genus Alcides was changed to Alcidodes by Marshall).

Habitat:

Spotted on vegetation along as survey transect in secondary coastal lowland mixed freshwater swamp forest/sago swamp forest.

Notes:

The cloth material you see is an upside-down kiddie umbrella we were using to look for micro weevils. Shake a bush and theoretically they are captured in the funnel of the umbrella. We didn't find any micro weevils but we did get larger versions and plenty of other cool species! Here is another ID'ed preserved image: http://www.bishopmuseum.org/research/nat...
