White-breasted Waterhen (chick)

Amaurornis phoenicurus

Description:

Dark. Tiny. Bundle of fluff. Hidden in the grass. Learning to forage. The third photo shows the adult which may or maynot be the parent. It was nearby but not with the chicks.

Habitat:

Urban residential. Patch of land sold but nothing built on it yet. It was flooded by rainwater recently and there is lush growth of grass and insects too I hope.

Thanks Tukup, today I went to the near side of the plot of land to catch a better shot but the chicks saw me and fled. Bad luck. Congratulations on your new hat too! Mine is Ok enough on the head but my feet are a little unsteady. Not up to speed yet...baby steps.
