Ferruginous Hawk

Buteo Regalis

Description:

This hawk migrates here for the winter. The largest of the North American hawks. This bird is a light morph.
Rusty brown on the upper parts and light colored underside. Head is a pale color. Dark comma shape on the underside of the wings at the wrists. The upperside of the wings have light colors across the upper part of the primary and secondary feathers. The rump is also a light color. These hawks and the Rough-legged are the only hawks with feather on the legs that reach the toes.

Habitat:

This one prefers higher elevations of hills over grassy areas.

Notes:

This bird surprised me and wish I could have had better focus on it.
