Copper-throated Sunbird - male

Nectarinia calcostetha

Description:

looks all dark until the light shines on the copper-red throat. About the size of a hummingbird.

Habitat:

Mangroves along the ocean edge in Ream National Park, Cambodia. Photo 5 showed the boardwalk we used to get from the boat to the tower. The nest was hanging from a nail in the pillar of the tower. We saw the male enter the nest and feed young and then it left and we never saw it again. I would have loved to stay to watch but was worried how long he would stay away from the nest if we watched. So many predators around there!

Notes:

Lots of manmade items in the nest construction including some strips of cloth.
