Large Noctuid Moth

Description:

Large Moth with cryptic coloration and a purple sheen on parts of the wings when angled. The iridescence can be quite strong as in pictures 2 and 3, which were taken in the same place on 20 July 2014. 7 cm wingspan. Family Noctuidae.

Habitat:

Came to the parking lights of a Shopping Center, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

This moth was identified by bayucca in November 2012.
