Bothrogonia addita
I found this leafhopper on the tree in my backyard. It is orange, and has some black spots on its body. The size of this leafhopper is about 10 mm in length.
- Around the garden and bushes.
- This leafhopper is from the family Cicadellidae. Thanks to Bayucca for the ID.
Nice one! Please consider adding to the global mission, The Hoppers: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8096...
With these 2 very similar species I suggest that we take Bothrogonia sp. as scientific ID. You might mention both possible candidates in the description. So we are on the safer side with the ID.
Hhhmm, i don't know...
But it is common bug in my area, and all that i found has orange wings. I never found the one with yellowish wings...
What about this one, IDed as Bothrogonia ferruginea:

Colors are not very reliable due to age, variability and, as in your case, use of flash.
Bothrogonia ferruginea look more yellowish - http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
How sure we can be with Bothrogonia addita?? If Malaysia is not indicated in the range report for Bothrogonia ferruginea, it does not automatically means that it is not present in Malaysia. And the all over question would we, how accurated are IDs of Bothrogonia, if all look the same or are very similar? So I am still ot sure about Addita or Ferruginea.
Cicadellidae, Cicadellinae, Cicadellini, Bothrogonia sp. and might be Bothrogonia addita or Bothrogonia ferruginea, both obviously reported from Malaysia. Personally I cannot separate the 2 species and I am not sure if all IDs are correct.
