It is the original Goldfinch from Europe and the only one known before the America's were colonized, when they saw similarly coloured birds and called them Goldfinches also! This one appears in American books as European Goldfinch but in Europe is known simply as Goldfinch. There are a few in America, mostly as cage birds, or those which have escaped.
