Description:

There are 18 species of Bembix and they are sand wasps that usually nest in dunes, beaches, enven golf course bunkers. Individual females often form dense nesting aggresgations. Females prey on flies and practice "progressive provioning," feeding the developing larvae as needed, much as adult birds do for their chicks.
