coprinopsis lagopus
Also known as Harefoot Fungus. Delicate inkcap growing up to 60mm high. Starts bell shaped and cap flattens out to about 40mm and finally rolls up on the outer margin. Young cap is covered in fine white hairs that fall off and mature cap is striated grey/brown. Stem is white and 3-5mm diameter with a fine ring that is quickly lost. Spore print is black.
Found on the ground in lawns and also in forest. These found in leaf litter in Te Koutu Park in the town of Cambridge, North Island, NZ.
This is a very short lived fungus often only lasting a few hours. Heavy rain will break them up quickly.

Thank you Antonio and Mark. I agree Mark, they appear and sometimes within hours, are gone with no trace. I found that first thing in the morning is the best time to find them undamaged.
