A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Pachydiplax longipennis
Both adults have greenish thoraxes with black striping. Faces are white and there are light amber patches on the wing. Body and wingspan length varies from 2.5-5 cm (1-2 in).
Wetlands and lakeshores. Males often patrol wetland edges and perch on vegetation overhanging the water.
The dragonfly in the first photo is performing an "obelisk" position. Not yoga, but by pointing the tail towards the sun it does reduce surface area on which direct sunlight can fall thus helping to reduce heat buildup.
