Rattlesnake-Plantain

Goodyera oblongifolia

Description:

Evergreen perennial with mottled or striped leaves forming a rosette. Flower stock comes from the centre and stands about 30 cm. The flower is usually greenish in our area but these were bright white.

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest temperate rain forest of Douglas fir, red Alder, big leaf Maple with an understory of Oregon grape and Sword fern.

Notes:

Found along the trails from Heritage Park to the Mission Abbey.

Great spotting Jean! I would love to see these orchids in bloom for myself. Thanks for showing them to me - almost in bloom - at Manning Park last month. I will link my spotting to this one if I ever get it edited and posted!
