Eastern Brown Snake

Pseudonaja textilis

Description:

Grayish-brown with no striking patterns, fairly small to medium size, not overly aggressive, highly (highly) venomous (2nd most venomous). Slight flare to the neck when agitated gives it the name "pseudonaja."

Habitat:

"The outback," dry eucalypt forest.

Notes:

Found at Moorrinya NP in Qld during a class trip, during a chase for a monitor lizard after a student saw it instead and yelled "snake!." It was a very exciting find, and had us all tripping over our feet to catch it safely. Much more exciting than the monitor lizard.

Lovely find at Moorrinya but it seems to be a young Mulga snake (Pseudechis australis).
