Dragonfly or Damselfly

Description:

I have a lake in my backyard with so many Dragonflies. I do not know the difference between a dragonfly and a damselflies, so maybe I also have lots of damselflies! I am faithful that someone will help me out and tell me how to tell the difference! Thanks in advance!

Hey Hollye! "Odes For Beginners" is a good Web site to visit for, well, beginners. For example, look under "Let's Get Started" for info re: how to tell the difference between dragonflies and damselflies. http://www.odesforbeginners.com/ The dragonfly in your photos appears to be an immature Widow Skimmer dragonfly (Libellula luctuosa), possibly a male (as indicated by the pale pruinescence that does not cover its body completely). http://bugguide.net/node/view/586
