Little Egret

Egretta garzetta garzetta

Description:

This striking and elegant member of the heron family can be identified by its pure white feathers; elongated, sinuous neck; long, black legs and dark, stabbing bill. Subspecies Egretta garzetta garzetta is identified by the vivid yellow feet (as noticed clearly in the second and third pics)

Habitat:

Seen at the Ashtamudi Lake.

Notes:

They stalk their prey in shallow water, often running with raised wings or shuffling its feet to disturb small fish. They may also stand still and wait to ambush prey.
