Description:

The hairy woodpecker is a medium-sized woodpecker with distinctive black and white markings. Distinguished from the Downey woodpecker by its longer bill and larger body size.

Habitat:

Spotted on a fallen tree in a canyon near the Umtanum creek. Mostly ponderosa pine and cottonwood trees.
