Cosmophasis umbratica
Salticidae; Heliophaninae; Cosmophasis; Cosmophasis umbratica Simon, 1903 I find iridescent colours difficult to photograph and my pictures of this kind of spider tend to be "a hit or a miss". I just can't get consistent results. So, identification is next to impossible. In https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/362604-...... there are many beautiful pictures of Cocmophasis spp., but I just can't tell if my spider is one of them, either because of the unreliability of my pictures or, just maybe, my spider is not featured there. I did manage some better shots of similar spiders on two previous spottings - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/34... and https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17...
Spotted in our backyard, on a very small banana pseudostem offshoot (from the base of an older, dying main pseudostem).
As you can see, I just received a Species ID Suggestion from arne.roysland and changed the scientific name to Cosmophasis umbratica.
To: arne.roysland
Thanks Arne, as mentioned in my "Description", I had already looked at the one you suggest from inaturalist.org and could not quite see it as a match. Now, with your ID suggestion, I have looked again and I am sure you are right because you are always spot-on. My problem is really that my pictures are sometimes just useless when it comes to iridescent colours. Thanks again for your help. John B.
