Arge Tiger Moth

Description:

Tiger Moths in the family Grammia are characterized by the contrasting black and white marking. This specimen closely resembles the Arge Tiger Moth, though the colored hindwings, as well as the black markings on the hindwings deter from an identification of such. The moth blended in quite nicely amongst the dead grass. This little moth had a real photogenic disposition.

Habitat:

Deciduous forests of North America-36+ species above Mexico.

Notes:

Not sure if the adult feeds; looks like I can see a proboscis in the first photo...
