Polygonia interrogationis
Leaf looking butterfly. Well camouflaged against tree bark. In photos drinking with proboscis on a tree along with some bees.
Tree in urban area. Toronto, ontario
Great spotting! And what a good eye to catch this one so well camouflaged! Here is the Butterflies & Moths of the World mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/4989...
Thank you ForestDragon! I have updated the spotting and removed the Moths Mission. Appreciate the help!
Hi Laura! This beauty is actually a butterfly! It's too bad that it didn't open it's wings for you to see the wonderful orange coloration on the dorsal sides of the wings. The small white marking on the hindwing is diagnostic for this species (it's sort-of question mark shaped).
You will have to remove this from the Moths of the World mission, sorry :-).
