Laughing jim

Gymnopilus junonius

Description:

About 150mm across and 120mm tall; rounded, flat to dished, chestnut coloured cap; irregular wavy margin; thick, straight, cream coloured, fibrous stipe with some signs of orange ring; gills very crowded to the point where they are heavily concertina-ed..?!

Habitat:

Low eucalyptus and native shrub with open grassy areas. On suburban highway division.

Notes:

I'm sure this isn't the last fungus of the season... We have learned an amazing amount about them through an incredibly long and wet season and or course thanks to PN .... here's hoping springtime will bring new subjects. Maybe now is a good time go back to correct all the wrong ID's that I'm sure have crept into our collections. John Farnham rocks ok?

Ha ha... exactly right martin. I have made a pact with myself - 501 should be special and the others are going into cold storage.

You've had more final mushrooms than John Farnham has had final tours.

Cool as chips! (As my son would say) Crinkle cut, of course! I thought you might have something saved up for spotting number 500. Congratulations! Thanks for all your enthusiastic contributions.
