Description:

This butterfly recently emerged from its chrysalis and was drying its wings. The remains of the chrysalis were broken on the ground but it was attached to the underside of this leaf. Monarchs are in the chrysalis for about two weeks before emerging then allow their wings to dry for several hours before flying away.
