Red-tailed hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

On two successive days, I came across the remnants of what must have been an epic battle for life. On day 1, I saw only feathers strewn along both sides of a walking path for about 40 feet. The next day, I returned to the scene and found the whole wing of a red-tailed hawk lying in the leaves. A great horned owl might have been the cause of its demise according to my experienced Audubon Society friends..

Habitat:

Mason Farm Biological Reserve

It is a bit sad, littlelokelani, but all the animals need to eat. I'm glad that I didn't see the actual battle.
