Scarlett Banana

Musa coccinea

Description:

I originally thought that this might be a heliconia rodriguezii, however, I can't find one speciman that looks even remotely similar. This might be a calathea. This was an ornamental in someone's yard. It has leaves that resemble heliconia/calathea. The inflorescence was the size of a large man's hand.

Habitat:

Tropical wet forest in Sw Costa Rica.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Jellis, it sure would. In fact, I have so many of my nearly 1000 spottings I wish I would have had more fotos. Frankly, my family is tired of me taking 5 minutes to walk 10 feet, LOL!

Without a doubt, No, Agnes. Thanks so much!

Would be helpful if you added images of the whole plant too.

It's commonly planted in Singapore.

The leaves looks more like banana family than ginger family.

Thanks Jellis! However, I am quite sure it isn't the alpinia. I have been growing that species in many colors at my home here in Costa for nearly ten years.
