Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Notes:

This hawk was perched (for quite a while), looking for its next meal. It finally did swoop down to the ground, where presumably it caught a young ground squirrel or Audubon's cottontail (there were a lot of young ones out and about on this particular morning). Spotted at Whittier Narrows Nature Center.
